The story behind
The Sharing Shed
Built to turn an vision into something useful, personal, and grounded in community care.

The journey
A community built on generosity, care, and connection.

The Sharing Shed Foundation was born from a life changed in an instant. After Ava Costa sustained a spinal cord injury while training as an elite gymnast, our family entered a world of hospitals, rehabilitation, uncertainty, and overwhelming barriers to accessing essential mobility equipment.
Along the way, we discovered a heartbreaking reality: while families desperately searched for wheelchairs, hoists, shower chairs, and other life changing equipment, many of these items were sitting unused in garages, sheds, and storage rooms.
At its heart, The Sharing Shed is about neighbours supporting neighbours, so everyone has the chance to move through life with comfort, dignity, and confidence.
Every item shared represents someone’s kindness being passed forward. The equipment provided is always free, offered as-is, and intended to help people choose what feels right for them.
Reflections from the people around the project
“
The team went above and beyond to source the right equipment and deliver it to my clients’ home. Without the Sharing Shed, these clients would not have been able to continue living at home with their family.

The team at the Sharing Shed Foundation are amazing. Their ability to locate quality equipment without financial pressure meant my mum could stay living safely and comfortably in her own home.

The Sharing Shed helped my daughter by providing a wheelchair while she waited for her own custom chair to be approved through NDIS. Randi was extremely patient and helpful.
